If you go to a bar in Belgium and ask for a beer, they're gonna look at you weird. There are about 1200 original Belgian beers in Belgium, it's going to be one hell of a journey to try to find which one you like best. Beers with 5% of alcohol or less are for infants. Belgian beers can have as much as 39% (Struise Black Damnation).
In Brussels in 2013, I had two cans of beers with my host in Grand Place, coupled with Belgian fries, after dancing to some lindyhop, and that was enough to make me conk out in the cab on the way home.
I also had beers with another two of my hosts in Brussels and Bruges.
