2014: I went to Tokyo on my own, and it was pretty hard to get around and order food, because of the language barrier. Also because I was on a very limited budget.
That was until I met my host who insisted on paying for my meals, so I did manage to try some sushi. They came in a set. People always gush on how much better the sushi in Japan is, compared to anywhere else in the world. Now. I love Japanese food, but I'm not enough of a connoisseur to be able to tell the difference.
