2016: Madame Tussaud's is a chain of wax museums with branches in many major cities around the world. In Asia, they have branches in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Thailand and a new one opening in India next year.
Since I usually travel alone, I have to curb the temptation to go to the museums, as they are quite pricey, and for that price, I would want to share the experience with someone I know. Places like wax museums and amusement parks are not so fun to visit on your own. Besides, you would want someone to take pictures of you with the sculptures, and you certainly don't want to keep harassing the other visitors.
When my partner agreed to come with me to Madame Tussaud's in Bangkok, I was ecstatic. It was located near Siam Square, and a bit complicated to get to, because you need to exit Siam Square, go around the back, take a lift in a carpark and go to the 6th floor which will connect to the 9th floor of another building, where the museum is. I don't know why we can't enter the building from the ground floor and take a lift to the 9th floor.
Part of the entrance to the museum was under renovation, so it was a little disappointing, but the inside was good enough. The first sculptures were of the king and queen of Thailand, followed by prominent leaders of the world including my favorite, Tun M. The rest were mostly international celebrities and sports figures, with a few local ones. There were also some interactive zones where you can dance, sing karaoke, and play sports with machines. We had loads of fun and took a lot of pictures too.
